“Mikel Obi Is A Bad Number 10 For Super Eagles” – Mourinho

Sequel to the opening Group D World Cup match of the Super Eagles against Croatia on Saturday which ended with a 2-0 victory in favour to the Crotian team, Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho has disclosed that Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi is a bad number 10.
Mourinho stated this after Nigeria’s loss to Croatia on Saturday. The Portuguese gaffer, who signed Mikel for Chelsea in 2006 and converted him from an attacking midfielder to a defensive midfield, said Nigeria has lost a good defensive midfielder in the person of Mikel.
Speaking as a World Cup pundit on the Russian TV station, RT, Mourinho said, referring to Mikel: “Nigeria lost a good No.6 to get a bad No.10.”
Mikel has often played an advanced role for the Eagles, while he played a much deeper role for Chelsea successfully for close to 11 years.
The Eagles will face Iceland on Friday needing a win to keep hope alive.

Revealed: Cristiano Ronaldo Is Very ‘Angry’ Over Antoine Griezmann’s New Salary

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has reportedly gotten angry over a salary increase handed to Antoine Griezmann.
Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly furious after knowing that Atletico Madrid’s striker, Antoine Griezmann is now earning more than he does at the Los Blancos.
It will be recalled that Atletico confirmed on Monday that Griezmann has agreed fresh terms at the Wanda Metropolitano, which is thought to have placed him above Ronaldo in the wage table.
Sport, Spain newspaper, reports that Ronaldo is frustrated as a result of Griezmann’s new deal, and the Santiago Bernabeu club are now under pressure to speed up contract talks with the forward.
Ronaldo also earns a lower salary than Barcelona star, Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain forward, Neymar, with Madrid said to be paying him just under £40m a year.
The 33-year-old scored three goals in Portugal’s 3-3 draw with Spain at the 2018 World Cup last week and the forward is due to start against Morocco on Wednesday afternoon.

I Am Not Under Pressure’- Gernot Rohr Speaks Ahead Of Iceland Clash

I Am Not Under Pressure’- Gernot Rohr Speaks Ahead Of Iceland Clash

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has insisted he is not under pressure ahead of Friday’s Group D clash against Iceland.
It will be their second group game at the 2018 World Cup, following a 2-0 defeat to Croatia in their first fixture.
Rohr, speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, declared that he won’t allow himself to be pressured beyond the normal demands of his job.
“The pressure I feel now is the same as I have always felt. It is the usual pressure to win and do well for Nigeria.
“There is no need to add to this pressure. More pressure on the team will not translate to better results,” the German said.
Rohr admitted that the crucial game against Iceland will be tough, but is confident his side will get a result.
“It (the match against Iceland) will be a tough game. We have to be at our best and be more professional with our defending, especially set pieces. We have to be fully focused and not lose concentration all through the game. I believe with hardwork we can get a good result,” he concluded.

It Will Be Hard For Us” – Super Eagles Players Express Fear Ahead Of Iceland Clash

Super Eagles attacker, Victor Moses has stated that Iceland will be a hard nut to crack, when they clash with the Eagles on Friday.

The Chelsea of England player suggested that the match against Icelanders is make or mar adding that it is the match to win, rather than bother about Argentina.
‘’Obviously Iceland will not be easy. Tactically, Iceland is a very good team, they played very well against Argentina,’’Moses told reporters.
‘’For me, the game with Iceland is going to be more difficult than the game against Argentina.’’
Also Odion Ighalo revealed that it was going to be a hard game, but the Eagles must show strength to carry the day. “The Iceland game will be different from the Croatian one. We want to attack in that game and we want to create chances because only with chances you score goals.”
“Our team spirit is very important to us. No matter if we win or lose, we are always united and thinking the same way. We believe in this unity and we believe in our team.
The Eagles need to win the match to stay alive in group D. A loss will consign the Eagles to early exit, after they gifted Croatia an easy win their opening game.

Check Out The Super Eagles Starting XI Vs Iceland

Gernot Rohr has made three changes to the starting line-up for Super Eagles next game in the World Cup against Iceland on Friday.
The German has decided to drop three players from the squad that lost 2-0 to Croatia on Saturday, Own goal is reporting.
The coach did not, however, make wholesome changes and has kept the core of the team once again on Friday.
The trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Tyronne Ebuehi, and Ahmed Musa have returned to the starting lineup for Friday while Odion Ighalo, Shehu Abdullahi and Alex Iwobi have been dropped.
The need to inject pace and urgency in the attack of the Eagles is largely the reason why Musa will start in attack with Victor Moses moving to the left flank.
This means that Iheanacho will take the spot of Odion Ighalo in the starting line-up.
Super Eagles starting X1: Uzoho, Balogun, Ekong, Ebuehi, Idowu, Ndidi, Etebo, Mikel, Musa, Ihenacho, Moses.

Egypt FA Speaks On Mohammed Salah Leaving World Cup Early

The Egyptian FA has ruled out Mohamed Salah leaving the World Cup early despite their elimination.
Salah made his first start since injuring his shoulder in the Champions League final when Egypt played Russia in their second World Cup group game on Tuesday, but could not prevent defeat.
A 3-1 loss to the hosts meant Egypt were dumped out, having also been beaten 1-0 in their opening fixture against Uruguay – which Salah watched from the substitutes’ bench.
Egypt head coach Hector Cuper insisted Salah was “100 per cent fit” for the tournament, but said their preparation had been impacted by the player needing to train alone as he recovered from injury.
But, contrary to reports, Salah says has not asked to leave before Egypt’s final group game against Saudi Arabia.
Writing in Arabic, Salah declared on Twitter: “Everyone in Egypt is together and there is absolutely no disagreement between us. We respect each other and the relationship is great.”
The Egyptian FA has also insisted Salah will not be heading home early – whether or not Liverpool are eager to have him back.
“I have no idea about Liverpool,” said the president of Egypt’s FA, Hany Abo Rida. “But we have our captain Mohamed Salah and under the rules FIFA requires him to be inside his camp and requires him to stay with his team.
“I do not know what Liverpool meant, but he did not ask his club any questions.
“He is happy to mingle with his teammates and he was shocked by what the press has written about him and denied it all on social media.
“We’re all perplexed by what has been published and have no idea where it came from

Transfer News: Manchester United Signs Fred For $67M

Brazilian international midfielder Fred completed his move to the team he says are the “biggest club in the world” Manchester United for a reported £50m ($67m) on Thursday.
The 25-year-old — who missed Brazil’s opening 1-1 draw with Switzerland at the World Cup because of an ankle injury — gives United manager Jose Mourinho a powerful-looking midfield, with the Brazilian set to slot in alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
“This is the biggest club in the world and I am delighted to be a part of this amazing team,” Fred told the United website.
“To work with Jose Mourinho, who has won so many trophies in his time as a coach, is an opportunity not to be missed.
“I cannot wait to get started and to meet my new team-mates.
“This is a very exciting time for me with my focus now fully on the World Cup with Brazil.”
Mourinho, who has also signed Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot from Porto, said Fred would add a missing component to the midfield.
“Fred will complement our other midfielders’ qualities,” said Mourinho.
“His creative brain and passing vision will give us another dimension to our game.”
Mourinho is under pressure for his side — who also finished without any silverware last season — to put up a proper title challenge to neighbors Manchester City.

FIFA Speaks On Claims That World Cup Referee Asked Ronaldo For His Shirt

FIFA have hit out at Morocco midfielder, Nordin Amrabat, for claiming referee Mark Geiger asked Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt, during Wednesday’s game between the sides.
Amrabat told Dutch TV after Morocco’s 1-0 defeat by Portugal: “I do not know what he (Geiger) is used to, but he was very impressed by Cristiano Ronaldo, and I hear from Pepe that he asked in the first half if he should have his shirt.
“What are we talking about? At the World Cup? It’s not a circus here.”
However, the world football governing body, on Thursday released a statement, saying it “unequivocally condemns the allegations” and that the American official “has acted in an exemplary and professional manner”.
The full statement reads: “It is with regret and disappointment that, following Wednesday’s Group B game between Portugal and Morocco, FIFA has learnt of reports in the media concerning referee Mark Geiger.
“It has been claimed that Mr Geiger asked for the shirt of the captain of Portugal during the half-time interval. Mr Geiger strongly refutes these claims and categorically states such a request was not made.
“FIFA unequivocally condemns the allegations supposedly made by a member of the Moroccan team.
“FIFA referees are under clear instructions with regard to their behaviour and relationship with the teams at the World Cup and it can be confirmed that Mr Geiger has acted in an exemplary and professional manner as an appointed match official.
“FIFA would like to remind teams of their duty to respect all principles of fair play.”

After the defeat, the coach revealed that their decision and his failure to find a tactical system that gets the best out of his squad and their talisman Lionel Messi made them lose the match.
When told by a reporter that Sampaoli had suggested that the players failed to adapt to his “project”, Aguero replied, “Let him say what he wants.”
The Manchester City forward refused to answer any further questions and walked away.
Ante Rebic capitalised on goalkeeper Willy Caballero’s mistake to put Croatia ahead with a superb effort.

Nigeria Vs Iceland: We Haven’t Lost Hope – Mikel

Nigeria captain Mikel Obi says the Super Eagles are focussed on reaching the second round of the 2018 World Cup despite their poor start to their campaign in Russia.
The Eagles lost 2-0 to Croatia in their opening group fixture in Kaliningrad on Saturday and they have been under intense criticisms from their fans.
Nigeria has a chance to keep their World Cup hopes alive by beating World Cup debutants Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on Friday, and Mikel insists they will be all over the field firing on all cylinders against their fierce Nordic opponents, who held superstar Lionel Messi’s Argentina to a 1-1 draw at Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Saturday.
“We are focussed; we have not given up hope in spite of the disappointment of the loss to Croatia,” the veteran midfielder told reporters at Nigeria’s training base in Essentuki on Wednesday.
